Plum Hill is our 630 sq ft small home and 0.43 acre property. We have been slowly improving, maintaining, and renovating as we can afford it. Our style is cozy homey cottage with vibrant colours including turquoise, purple, red, pink, and orange. We like natural wood, especially walnut and mahogany, with a little cedar and pine mixed in. Furniture is reclaimed, rustic, comfortable, and a few simple mid century modern pieces. I avoid yellow and green in my styling, and primarily use white as a background with a few black and chrome accents.
We are gardening on an Islands Trust protected slope property in the PNW, Zone 9a, on a rural Canadian Gulf Island. Focus is on keeping at least 60% of our property wild for native habitat, developing a deer-fenced cottage-style pollinator flower garden, and nurturing plum and nectarine fruit trees. Trees we’ve planted so far include native arbutus Madrona trees, a Norway red maple, ornamental cherry, Vulcan magnolia, Miss Canada lilac, monge lilac, bloodgood Japanese red maple, camellia, and a rather special big leaf maple sapling that is a descendant of the large tree that used to be at the local community hall. Our property already had big leaf maples, yellow cedars, and red alders growing naturally.

Writing has been very cathartic for me, and I’ve been working on finishing my memoir for many years. The first draft was finished over a decade ago, so I’m slowly editing it as I find the time. Check back on the stories tab for new edits.
