Whimsical Bouquets from My Garden

I have never really tried making bouquets, I was always more of the plunk it all in a vase type of gal, and called it good enough. That is, until I discovered flower farmers on YouTube! Floret, Garden Answer, and Cranery’s whimsical bouquets really inspired a creativity in me I didn’t know existed…

Important Note: I purposely pick the flowers near the end of their time in the garden to give the pollinators the best chance possible first. I’m not concerned about longevity of bouquets, they usually last a little under a week, which is perfect for me.

My first ever attempt at a whimsical bouquet with spring tulips, bluebells, and a few pretty weeds and herbs.
My first attempt after the tulips fully opened, in morning light – it reminds me of a painting of a Victorian still life.
An eclectic collection of roses, geraniums, petunias, feverfew, lupins, and California poppies that were flopping over after a hard rain – all of my favourite vibrant colours!
A tiny posy in an old salt shaker with ajuga, lilacs, tiny new ferns, and blue bearded iris
The same tiny posy after the iris opened.
A small bouquet of feverfew, some Joseph’s Coat climbing rose buds (pruned after planting it in the garden), a sweet viola, and a few California poppies. That is the true colour of the roses – no filter!
Not one of my favourite looks, but I used what I had at the time, and the fragrance was gorgeous – lilacs, lemon balm, blue bearded iris, ferns, buttercups, and alliums
Another eclectic collection of flowers nearing their end or needing pruning back – geraniums, red roses, kinnickinnick, daisies, yellow flag iris (hate these invasives and am removing them all!), feverfew, and a random single allium
A few days later it produced the most perfect fragrant red rose I have ever seen or smelt!
Mint, roses, bowles mauve wallflowers, violas, and kinnickinnick.
Sometimes my bouquets get extra “whimsical” if some of the blooms die and need to be removed.
Flowers gathered by my work station on the deck, outside the “man cave”.
Vases with water, pruners, and a pair of gloves (for the rose thorns!) are the only things you need!

I’m so excited to see what my summer and fall blooms will produce! I haven’t yet used any of my wildflower seed mix flowers, and I started cosmos and zinnia from seed (looking good!). Someone gave me a few dahlia tubers that are just poking up (my first time trying them), and my hydrangea is covered in buds.
